Dream Job
If you’ve spent any time on Instagram or YouTube lately, there’s a high chance you’ve seen the viral stories: someone quitting their 9-to-5 to sell products on Etsy, or a friend starting a dropshipping business that funded their dream of traveling abroad.
It sounds like a dream, but if you’re interested in starting, you might be wondering: Where do I actually begin?
What is Dropshipping?
At its core, dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when you sell a product, you purchase the item from a third party (a manufacturer or wholesaler) who ships it directly to the customer.
The industry is exploding. According to Shopify, the global dropshipping market is expected to reach over $500 billion by 2027. It’s a low-risk way to enter e-commerce because you don’t have to invest thousands in inventory upfront.
Step 1: Determine Your Niche
There are thousands of niches to choose from. A quick search on sites like Alibaba will show you everything from perfume to dog toys. However, the most successful shops usually focus on a passion.
For me, that passion is Art.
Turning Your Designs into Products
Selling your own art is one of the most rewarding ways to dropship. You don’t even need to be a master painter to start:
- Original Art: Upload your own sketches or paintings.
- Copyright-Free Designs: Use high-quality, royalty-free assets.
- AI Enhancement: Ask Gemini to do the heavy lifting, just supply a reference photo, and a prompt.
Print on Demand
Once you have your design, you need a partner to bring it to life. I found an incredible company called Art of Where based right here in Montreal. They specialize in drop-shipping custom T-shirts, leggings, scarves, and more.
Working with a local Canadian printer means faster shipping for North American customers and high-quality “made to order” craftsmanship. I can upload my butterfly design and instantly see it on a cellphone case, a plush pillow, or a t-shirt. The list goes on!

Using this exact method, I recently launched these Watercolor Butterfly Coasters. They are printed on-demand in Montreal, featuring a rigid PVC build and a non-slip grip. They are the perfect example of how a digital idea can become a beautiful, functional product in someone’s home.
Happy creating! Whether you are using AI, a paintbrush, or digital tools, the world of dropshipping is waiting for your unique vision
